ABOUT JUDY

I am here to accompany and support you as you explore, discover, and find the courage to face your troubles. I believe we become who we are through our interactions with others; for that reason, I specialize in relationships, helping them heal, grow, and thrive.  The confidence and security that is fostered by healthy relationships, strengthens the capacity to overcome feelings of sadness, anxiety, anger and loneliness and paves the way to greater happiness and a sense of well-being.

Licensed Psychotherapist
Registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences LCS 26665

I am a licensed psychotherapist practicing in Irvine, California and I have worked in the mental health field since 1988 as a counselor and mental health specialist.  I completed my BA in Psychology (2003) and a Masters of Social Work degree at California State University, Long Beach (2007). I am a graduate of Newport Psychoanalytic Institute, with PsyD in Psychoanalysis (2017).  Over the course of my career I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults providing individual, couples, group and family therapy.

I have experience working with a broad range of problems, and I have a passion for helping clients improve their significant relationships. I support and guide them in exploration of their current circumstances and the relevant past experiences to identify thoughts, feelings, behaviors and patterns that undermine their most important relationships.  In my own life and in the work I do with clients, I emphasize the importance of greater authenticity in order to improve communication and to develop a greater ability to express feelings in healthier and more satisfying ways.

I take a relaxed, comfortable, interactive approach to counseling and I utilize my skills and experience to gently guide clients toward a better understanding of the underlying patterns that have contributed to conflict and distress.  Often we are not aware of these patterns that were established at an early age.  My approach encourages clients to explore their early primary relationships (family of origin) and notice how they shape their current relationships.  My clients learn to recognize, investigate and  accept difficult feelings, moving them toward taking appropriate responsibility and making needed changes. Most of all I want to help them to empower themselves in creating healthier, more satisfying ways of being in the world.

I have been married for over 30 years and I am the mother of two grown children.
